Fifty Shades of Grey—this year's enigmatic but enormously hyped Valentine's Day feature—took viewers inside a penthouse as lavishly designed as the affair that took place within it. Prior to the film's release, Designboom and Covet Lounge spoke about the process of creating one of 2015's most infamous interiors.

Pieces from Boca Do Lobo, Delightfull, Brabbu and Koket were among those noted as suited to "the main character's extravagant ways and millionaire taste." The fact that Brabbu describes itself as "a design brand that reflects an intense way of living, bringing fierceness, strength and power into an urban lifestyle," is telling.

Covet Lounge included "a touch of feminine perspective," as requisite for the scheme, too. The juxtaposition of Koket's "Burlesque" console and Brabbu's "Sequoia" center table engenders such eclecticism.

"Each of our brands reflect Christian’s different personality traits. He is well educated and classy, with a keen eye for timeless design, which goes in line with Boca Do Lobo’s values and concept. However, he also has a wild, almost animal side, traits where Brabbu draw most of their inspiration from. (Despite his dark past with the opposite sex) Christian Grey has a deep understanding of women’s psychology and behavior, which he uses to his advantage, much like Koket’s pieces, which seek to deliver a special experience to the women who come in contact with them. And although incredibly hard-working, he also knows how to have a good time, reflecting Delightfull’s design philosophy," Covet told Designboom.
