Frenzied Bidding Unloads Custom Upper East Side Penthouse for $19 Million

In Manhattan real estate, penthouse shopping is practically a blood sport—one that packs more competitive action lately than New York's local pro sports teams (sans the Stanley Cup runner-up, the Rangers).

The latest contest was played on the Upper East Side’s turf as the newly-customized penthouse at 515 East 72nd Street was snatched up recently for a cool $19 million—after a month-long bidding war as intense as any overtime, shootout or extra-inning playoff game. On the market for less than two months via The Corcoran Group, the home sold for $500,000 over its original $18.5 million list price.
