#1 Elle Macpherson's Aspen Mansion

Like so many of the super wealthy who tend to congregate in the same playgrounds, Elle Macpherson owns prime real estate in Aspen. Macpherson and billionaire husband Jeffrey Soffer have put their Aspen mansion, which they purchased in 2007 for $36.5 million, on the market for $35 million.

Located in the exclusive gated community of Starwood and perched above Aspen on 66 acres, Macpherson’s estate is located in McLain Flats, boasting mountain and city views. Built in 2004, the rustic but sophisticated home uses reclaimed aged oak, plenty of granite, white oak paneling, and limestone with custom copper shingles. At 14,395 square feet, the interior, with its soaring ceilings in the main living area contains seven bedrooms, thirteen baths, French limestone floors, indoor and outdoor pools, commercial kitchen, steam room, hot tub, juice bar, exercise room, and two elevators.

#2: Las Vegas Ultra-Contemporary

Named CAVU (translated to Ceiling and Visibility Unlimited in aviation speak), this 13,255-square-foot, five-bedroom, nine-bath home is planted firmly on over a half acre in the Mojave Desert in Las Vegas and has 7,219 square feet of patios and wood decks integrated for unobstructed indoor-outdoor living

Views include both the protected desert landscape from one side and the sparkling luminescence of Las Vegas city lights from the other.  Award-winning architect Eric Strain has created a private modern resort mansion on three levels with distinct originality to sleep, eat, and play. The eco-friendly home generates its own 10 kilovolts of clean energy.  The lower play area with its glittering glass wine cellar will house 1,400 digitally cataloged bottles, bowling alley, billiards room, bar, state-of-the-art movie theater, spa and wellness center, flashing lights, and its own working slot machine. Built to satisfy the most demanding imagineer, the CAVU mansion, 15 minutes from the Las Vegas Strip and designed for entertaining with its own bow to Sin City, is for sale for $12.5 million.

#3: Connecticut Spiral House

The Spiral House, sitting at the edge of Long Island Sound near the Point in Old Greenwich, Connecticut, is priced at $5.595 million. It was designed by Joeb Moore and is built on two levels to capture the unobstructed view of the horizon through two-story walls of glass, offering the Sound views to almost every room.

Within its 4,847 square feet are four bedrooms, five baths, and a long, open expanse of formal living and dining, interrupted only by a two-sided glass fireplace with only glass walls separating residents from the view for the entire length. The master suite has a glass wall overlooking the Sound with its own balcony, fireplace, gym, dressing room, and spa bath. One more eye-catching feature is a separate bath with glass bathtub side. Innovative and sleek, the home has won several awards from the American Institute of Architects and was chosen in 2013 by Interior Design magazine as “Best of the Year.”

#4: Donald Trump's First Mansion

With his business success and wealth, Trump owns a roster of mansions. Trump was only 35 in 1982 when he and wife Ivana purchased their first mansion, a 5.8-acre home on a peninsula in Greenwich, Connecticut, for $4 million.

Always a family-oriented business, Ivana was also remodeling the Plaza Hotel in Manhattan in the early 1980s and was able to incorporate many of the same materials in the decoration of their new home, creating a residence dripping in gold leaf, elegant chandeliers, and crown moldings. When they divorced in 1991 after 15 years of marriage, Ivana won the mansion in the property settlement. She sold the Greenwich home for $15 million in 1998, and the mansion's new owners immediately began a renovation to tone it down to more livable neutrals and added tennis courts as well as a 4,000-square-foot addition, which includes guest suites, a lap pool, and a sauna. It is currently for sale at $54 million.

Originally built in 1939, the 19,773-square-foot Georgian Colonial-style main house and a guest house have eight bedrooms; thirteen baths; a three-story rotunda foyer with double grand staircase; formal rooms overlooking views of the pool, grounds and Long Island Sound; home theater; a putting green; multiple terraces and patios; tennis courts; and three, fully-equipped staff apartments.

#5: Sun Valley Big Wood River Auction

This sweeping property of 71.3 acres with 2,100 feet along the Big Wood River in Sun Valley, Idaho, has a 9,200-square-foot mountain lodge-style main home, a guest home, and entry gate home.

Combined, the three rock and timber buildings include 11 bedrooms, 11 bathrooms, and staff quarters and is just minutes to Sun Valley Resort ski lifts, the airport, and downtown Ketchum. In addition to river frontage, there are spring-fed ponds and a dock next to the guest house. All three residences were designed with the same high-end materials used in the main lodge home with American chestnut hardwood floors, cedar-planked ceilings in formal rooms, black-granite countertops, custom Alder cabinets, Walker Zanger backsplash and imported English tile floors in the chef’s kitchen, and white marble countertops in all baths. Grand stone fireplaces invite snuggling up with a good book or snifter of after-dinner brandy with friends. Neither detail nor expense was overlooked for gracious, very private enjoyment. Choices for outdoor recreation abound from fly fishing, world class skiing, horseback riding, biking, and kayaking on the river or lakes. Listed at $59.5 million, this estate is going to no reserve auction on August 19.
