Season 15 of MTV’s long-running reality show, The Real World was filmed in the historic city of Philadelphia. Contestants during the season that aired from 2004 to 2005 were housed at 249 Arch Street, which has recently been sold for a reported $5 million.
An adjacent parking lot was also included in the sale.
Constructed in 1902, the building was once a bank, before becoming the backdrop for The Real World: Philadelphia. It features 15,000 square feet of space throughout its three levels.
The buyer of the properties is Christopher Aker, who plans to use the former residential space as an office space for his technology company Linode. “I’m proud of having bought the building, and I feel like we’re going to save this thing,” Aker told Philadelphia Business Journal. “I hope the community appreciates it as well. We will leave it in a better condition than we found it.”
Linode, which has been credited with helping to “define the cloud hosting industry,” was founded in Galloway, New Jersey, in 2003, and expects to add 50 to 70 new employees over the course of the next few years. There are an estimated 85 Linode employees currently.
