All kings need a castle—and the King of Late Night was no exception. Throughout his reign as the leader of the late night television comedy circuit, Johnny Carson always returned home to his sanctuary, his throne. Luckily, the home he returned to on the Malibu coast is now being listed by Coldwell Banker Global Luxury and Hilton and Hyland for $81.5 million.

Designed by reknowned architect Ed Niles on about four acres of perfectly kept grounds, the home is built on the bluffs of Malibu with perfect vantage points of views in all directions. Across from the home’s lush main grounds, is a waterfall, koi pond, and saltwater pool—complete with a guest house, two bedroom pavilion, kitchen, gym, locker room, and full tennis court.

The current owners of the home are Sidney and Caroline Kimmel, and when they bought the home in 2007, two years after Carson had passed away, they honored to preserve the design and intent that the home originally had with Johnny living in it. The duo also works in the industry, as producers that have worked on top-tier films like The Kite Runner and Lars and the Real Girl.

The estate will be represented by Chris Cortazzo of Coldwell Banker Global Luxury and Linda May of Hilton and Hyland. The residence is a short drive into Los Angeles, but feels perfectly serene and free from the bustle of the city’s traffic and honking horns. Looking out into the ocean from this property evokes the relaxing feel of nature all around. Johnny loved being in American’s homes every night, and now one lucky resident is going to get to return the favor.
