Design Miami has announced the appointment of Aric Chen as the new Curatorial Director for 2019. Chen is the first to be appointed to the newly created position which will oversee commissions, exhibitions and collaborations between Art Basel and Miami Beach.

Design Miami is a marketplace for design where the top galleries around the world present museum-quality exhibitions. By continuously expanding and enriching its program, Design Miami hopes to continue to satisfy the demand of high-end design fairs, broaden awareness of modern and contemporary design and provide exciting and accessible destinations for collectors and art enthusiasts.

The directorship role will be inaugurated following the conclusion of Chief Creative Officer Rodman Primack's role in December 2018. Design Miami appointed Chen, a design and architecture curator and critic based in Shanghai, after a global search for a candidate who would inject a fresh point of view. His strong background in the organization of exhibitions including The Design Museum in London, The Design Museum Holon, Israel and Design Miami, made him the perfect fit for the role.

Chen’s curatorial statement and exhibition program will be announced in spring 2019 ahead of Design Miami/ Basel.
