How The Kohanaiki Community Plants Seeds For Sustainability

Luxury living? Check. A luxury golf course? Check. But also, unique to a paradise development: luxury farming!  Kohanaiki, the private residential community situated on Hawaii’s Kona Coast, has a two-acre biodynamic farm exclusive to its own residents.

Located at the center of Kohanaiki, a 450-acre oceanfront luxury community in the Big Island of Hawaii, the organic farm works as a provider of fruits, vegetables and herbs. These are grown and harvested for the community restaurants and for member use.

The produce is grown by the residents, completely free of pesticides and herbicides. These include everything from guava, mango, pineapple, liliko‘i, taro, dragonfruit, three varieties of bananas, pomegranates, figs, okra, eggplant, ginger, lemongrass, and Surinam cherries.

And as if that was not enough, plants like aloe vera and lavender are cultivated on the farm and used in Kohanaiki Spa, the community’s luxury in-house retreat.

Farming at Kohanaiki is a family venture, where parents teach the next generation about self-sustainability and how to live off a fertile land in the Pacific.
