As we ring in the new year, we're looking forward to new trends and new color palettes (we're predicting a lot of emerald, Pantone's recently-anointed color of 2013). However, this has been a stellar year in the world of design, and we're not ready to let 2012 go just yet - at least not without a celebratory recap of the year's hottest trend. House Beautiful recently rounded up the most-buzzed about trends from the design world's leading bloggers. So before you start that countdown to the new year, take a moment to appreciate these trends, many of which we predict will remain with us as new classics.
- Chic camouflage: It's not just for army fatigues anymore. After a hot season on the runways at fashion shows, it was only a matter of time before camouflage made a chic transition into the world of design. "All of a sudden it's everywhere!" said Judi Roaman of the Accessorator. "Camouflage has invaded my head and my 'hood! As an 'accessorator supreme,' all this intense camouflage imagery can only mean one thing: a trend hiding in plain sight!" Check out these chic camouflage-patterned chairs.
- Brass: This gorgeous metal has had a resurgence in the last year, appearing as the perfect pairing on everything from shagreen tables to marble fixtures. "There is a warmth brass gives an interior, whether it be a modern or traditional space," said Marisa Marcantonio of Style Beat. "The golden hue of the metal provides a subtle, elegant gleam. It's having a comeback because it mixes well with other metals and its patina gets even better with age." Check out the gorgeous brass table below.
- Grass cloth: If you think grass cloth belongs in the yard, not the home - think again! Grass cloth wallpaper gives a warmth to just about any room, as seen below. Julie Yenicag of Belle Vivir said: "I've said it before and I'll say it again: the versatility of grass cloth wallpaper is indisputable. It adds coziness and texture to a bare wall almost instantly, while the natural fibers provide a home with that perfectly imperfect patina."
- 20th Century Furniture: This year designers took a peek into the past, to the time when furniture began looking a lot like art. "A revolution has hit the world of antiques, art, and collecting, and rooms will never look the same," Diane Dorrans Saeks of The Style Saloniste says. "Designers are putting a new spin on interiors, blurring the lines between furniture and art, and embracing bold, new materials."
