Billie Holiday, affectionately known as Lady Day by many of her fans, lived in this Upper West Side home at 26 West 87th Street, apartment #1B until she passed away in 1959. This apartment is where she lived when one of her most well-known albums, Lady in Satin, was released in 1958.
The apartment has undergone a few change of hands since then, but the most recent purchaser bought the home in 2017 for $9.5 million and renovated the home with the goal of keeping as many of the historic details as possible. The person who did these renovations was an architect by the name of Amie Sachs, who used to be a part of Annabelle Selldorf Architects.
The townhome itself is 6,300 square feet and has 7 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. There is even a garden in the backyard.
The house has been renovated with top-of-the-line appliances, a wet bar, a private library, a mud room, a media room, heated floors, a spa shower, and a zen garden.
Additionally, the house is only a block away from Central Park.
The house is being listed for $13.995 million. The broker is Kelly Killoren Bensimon. She was once on The Real Housewives of New York City and works at Douglas Elliman.
