Here, he speaks with Haute Residence about his unique background and marketing style.
Why did you choose Real Estate?
Over the years, my love of real estate has evolved from a love of architecture to a love of people. I see a home as more than a place to live - I see your home as a sacred place. It's a place where you make the decision as to what's right and wrong without bending to political correctness or other people's agendas. Unapologetically, you role model your life to your spouse, your kids, and your guests. You also define what quality of life is important. As a Realtor, it is my honor to be a pivotal part of helping people create this sacred space by providing them with the walls in which they live and love.
What was your journey to where you are today?
After achieving a BA in Business Marketing, I worked as a film producer for the first 10 years of my career. Film production was wonderful, but during those years, the transition to video production began to emerge. Nothing compares to the art form of shooting on 35mm film, and the entry to video created new challenges. The really difficult part, though, was the standard work week was often 80-90 hours a week, and often on the road. That was too much so I decided to spool back and take on freelance projects. This afforded me the ability to buy and sell historic homes as a hobby. At a certain point, it just made sense to have a real estate license. I guess I was naturally skilled at identifying good homes and marketing existing homes. Friends and neighbors sought my help as their Realtor and my love of real estate birthed a new career. 22 years later, I still love helping people achieve their real estate goals while using my marketing and storytelling skills to create successful campaigns.
What is your biggest success story to date?
While I am clearly a single-family residential Realtor, I had an 1100-unit multi-family apartment portfolio that came to me off-market. I took this to one of my residential clients and over the next 18 months, we crossed every hurdle blocking a successful closing. Today, that portfolio had multiplied in value exponentially, and as an investor in the project, it brings a smile every quarter when the new financials are released.
What makes your marketing unique?
I see people and individuals, not commodities. While residential real estate is a transactional business, my clients are forever friends. I do real estate with my heart and honor the process, attempting to treat every transaction as if it were my own. Yeah, I'm a bit quirky too. I have a marketing degree, and film production background and see life through a conservative filter that honors truth and honesty. I also like to have fun along the way.
