Return of the Classics: Timeless Mid-Century Design
Why is 20th-century design still so appealing? Experts revisit the best designs of several decades past, some that never left and others just now being revived. Panelists include Susan Lyons, president, DesignTex; Steven Stolman, president of Scalamandré Inc.; and Larry Weinberg, 20th-century design historian and dealer. Moderated by Donald Albrecht, curator of architecture and design, Museum of the City of New York. Tickets are $12 for general public, $10 for seniors and non-NYSID students, NYSID students are free. American Fine Craft Show & Contemporary Art Fair
For the third year in metro NYC, an art show that embraces contemporary art and fine craft join under one roof. The Contemporary Art Fair NYC provides a major showing to independent painters, photographers, sculptors or other artists doing non-functional work. The counterpart show, The American Fine Craft Show NYC, features the work of fine artisans working with glass, ceramic, wood, and other materials.In addition to the some 200 exhibitors, the art fair has added a Red Wall Gallery where artists will hang artwork or display sculpture at the entrance.

"Home is Where the Heart is" Designer Showhouse
The inaugural Designer Showhouse to benefit the American Heart Association will open with a Gala Preview Cocktail Party kicking off the first ever Showhouse to benefit the Association. “Home Is Where The Heart Is” will take place in Glen Cove, NY. Proceeds will benefit the American Heart Association, the nation’s oldest and largest voluntary health organization dedicated to fighting heart disease and stroke.
“Home Is Where The Heart Is”, in its inaugural year, will be a showcase for America’s premiere design talent. Approximately 25 top interior designers and landscape designers from the New York Metropolitan Area will turn a spectacular, classic Colonial Revival estate into a decorating masterpiece.
The showhouse will remain open from October 25 to December 1, 2013.
