In the winter months, it’s even more important to create a homey, warm space for family and guests. What is your top advice for designing a cozy, inviting living space?

Just as it is important to set the scene in your outdoor living spaces for summer, it's important to present your indoor spaces now in a manner that says "I've prepared for your arrival and hope you'll enjoy every moment!" Update with a few new pillows and throws that suggest comfort and ease in colors that are both seasonable and fresh. Place fresh flowers and candles in the very spots you would encourage people to linger.

Holiday décor can easily enter the realm of ‘hokey’ or contrived. What are some important tips to keep in mind when decorating a sophisticated interior for the holidays?

Avoid sentimentality and clutter. Add a touch of sparkle and glam to every room.

If you could change one element of a room to improve people’s first impression of the space, what would it be? Why?

This is a tough one, because there are so many ways to accomplish this, but in most cases, I find changing the lighting to be key. Lighting should be layered to provide overall ambience and interest. Art that is illuminated gains significance in the space. The right lighting adds texture, attitude and sophistication.

Are there any design trends you’d like to see disappear as quickly as they came?

Dare I say the feng shui dogma is pretty silly?
