Philanthropist and art collector Bunny Mellon has sold her Cape Cod estate, which she and her late husband purchased in the 1940s, for $19.5 million. Curbed reports that the 26-acre Osterville estate, which was listed last December, boasts a 7,000-square-foot eight-bedroom main house, a beach shack, an artist's studio, a tennis court, formal gardens and a pool. The property featured several greenhouses and Bunny's famous gardens, which were featured in publications like Vanity Fair.
“Nature was nurtured and respected. The owner was a true steward of the property,” Jack Cotton of Sotheby’s International Realty, who represented the property, told the Wall Street Journal.
The waterfront property was picked up by Home Port Investments LLC at a fraction of the original asking price - $28.7 million - with speculation that the Koch brothers are behind the sale. The estate boasts some 1,000 feet of continuous shoreline ripe for an expanded development.
