Debbi DiMaggio Started With A Mindset And Built Her Dream Job

Real Estate has been something Debbi and her partner and husband, Adam Betta, have been immersed in since they first met in 1990. They began working together in San Francisco, where Adam was raised and educated, and where they started their family prior to moving to Piedmont where Debbi was raised and where they grew their family and purchased their first home. And in 2020, their son Chase Betta joined the team.

Debbi is a master marketer, social media guru, and very tech-savvy, all crucial skills in today's ever-changing, fast-paced real estate market. One of her favorite aspects of selling a home is in the preparation phase prior to market where she uses her design and style acumen to bring a home from lived-in to staged to sell, coordinating every detail from contractors and stagers to home inspectors and photographers.

Here, she shares with Haute Residence her real estate journey and one of her favorite client stories.

688 Alvarado Road | SOLD! $2,752,500

Why did you choose Real Estate?

My journey in real estate started unintentionally, as I had initially expressed a disinterest in the field. Growing up, my father worked as a real estate syndicator and was always occupied with his work. After trying a variety of jobs from LA Magazine and Southern California Home and Design Magazine to working at Centinela Hospital in the Marketing Department and as a fragrance model and counter manager for the fragrance company, Giorgio Beverly Hills, I soon learned I was not fond of having a boss. I enjoyed working hard and was eager to excel; I did not want anyone to control my growth or be beholden to anyone who dictated if or when I would move up.

What was your journey to where you are today?

A friend of Adam's suggested that I would excel as a leasing agent, so I decided to give it a try. I discovered that I loved the fast-paced nature of the job and the opportunity to meet new and interesting people without being confined to a desk. This positive experience propelled me further into the real estate industry as a top producer, mentor, speaker, author, and coach.

141 Wildwood Gardens | SOLD! $2,950,000

What is one of your favorite client stories?

My favorite client story involves showing a home to the renowned actor, Ted Danson. During our interaction, Ted mentioned that he almost canceled the appointment because he was taking his daughters to a Pride event. I was 9 months pregnant at the time and expressed that I would have been very mad if he had canceled. This light-hearted exchange in the kitchen of the Pacific Heights home became a memorable moment for her. Our motto, long after this early interaction with TV and Film star, Ted Danson, evolved into how we have always treated each client we serve; "Luxury is a Service, Not a Price Point," and "All clients are treated like VIPs whether they are Selling or Spending $500,000 or $5,000,000." This same attitude extends to our service providers from plumbers and inspectors to handymen and contractors.

What is your biggest success story to date?

Regarding my biggest success story, I'd like to highlight two notable achievements. One was the sale of a high-end property in Piedmont, which set a record, at the time, as the highest-priced home sold in the area at $7,000,000. The other success story involved selling a small duplex for $1,100,000 for a client who was saddled with a difficult tenant and had recently lost her father. The emotional journey of supporting our client through the process and ultimately helping her move forward with her life was a very gratifying experience.

Piedmont, CA

What makes your market unique?

My market, which encompasses Piedmont, Oakland, Berkeley, and surrounding cities in the East Bay area of San Francisco is unique due to its stunning views of the San Francisco Bay. The region offers a vibrant atmosphere, a wide range of restaurants, and numerous recreational activities such as kayaking, hiking, and cultural events. The beauty of the East Bay and its close proximity to world-renown destinations, and the diverse experiences it offers, make it an exceptional place to live.
