Last month, Newport Coast saw a record sale with a three-story mansion featuring ocean views on three sides that sold for $19,777,777.

Located in the Pelican Crest gated community, the sale on December 23 is being reported as the 13th highest home price in Orange County ever, according to Register records. There was only one other home that even came close in Newport Coast and that was back in 2006 with a purchase of a classical-style home on a double lot by billionaire Henry T. Nicolas III who paid $19.5 million for his home.

But the home that just sold on Pelican Crest Drive is standing out from the crowd for more than just its record breaking sale price. “What is phenomenal about the home is the scale of it,” said listing agent Marcy Weinstein.

The home is 35 feet tall and features 14-foot ceilings on the main floor with 12-foot ceilings on the second floor. With more than 400 feet of views from virtually every room on the upper two levels, the home features five bedrooms and eight bathrooms with an elevator, eight fireplaces, a pool, spa, theater, and wine cellar.

Each wall is adorned with “hand-poured molding” and the master suite includes his-and-her bathrooms and closets. All other bedrooms are suites. There is room for six cars to park in the home’s underground garage, and there is more than 2,800 square feet of decks and loggias.

The original asking price was $25 million, but in order to get that down to the $19.8 million the buyer paid, he agreed that the sellers would take “two priceless chandeliers with them.”

The home is a Palladian-style mansion which was built in 2006 and was designed by Irvine architect Eric Trabert.

The former owners own 2GUARD paint and protective coating business and have built and sold a total of seven homes to date. It’s reported that the couple sold this particular home because “they had one more house to build.”
