At its center was Minoru Yamasaki’s 1966 Century Plaza Hotel, a mid-century masterpiece that served as a second home to Hollywood glitterati—power players and stars who closed deals, tied the knot, and received countless awards in the downstairs ballroom. The hotel is rooted deep in history, spanning numerous high profile events and guests that include Ronald and Nancy Reagan, Andy Williams, and Walt and Lillian Disney. It was home to the Grammy Awards in 1970 and 1971 and the Emmy Awards in 1967.
Fifty years later, Century City remains a haven of A-list talent agencies, top-tier entertainment companies, world-class retail, and some of the best commercial real estate in the city. Its history is preserved and restored to grandeur by an award winning team. Marmol Radziner retained the 400-room hotel’s glorious New Formalism through grand gestures, restoring the canopy above the porte cochere and replacing the 700 sliding glass doors to look nearly identical to the originals, while meeting the highest of environmental standards. The Fairmont Century Plaza lobby is welcoming to all with an open breezeway that allows the flow of air and light into its interior lounges, gardens, and rooftop pool and bar.

For exclusive luxury, two soft-edged, symmetrical triangles scrape the sky behind the concave sweep of the iconic hotel. These two 44- towers by Pei Cobb Freed & Partners pay homage to Yamasaki’s masterpieces, but are most definitely a wonderful addition to Los Angeles.
Century Plaza will also feature over 95,000 square feet of bespoke restaurants and boutique retail, including three flagship pavilions facing Avenue of the Stars to serve future residents, and visitors alike. The front retail plaza will include a 23 foot sculpture from acclaimed Spanish sculptor Jaume Plensa, immersive water elements, and a new promenade brought up to street level for seamless walkability from Avenue of the Stars to the shops and the hotel lobby. This path will continue through the landmark lobby and into the rear plaza which will house a mix of second floor retail and restaurant spaces that seamlessly connect to the new Westfield Century Mall across the street, creating a true pedestrian thoroughfare.
