Michael Chow, renowned restaurateur and founder of the iconic Mr. Chow brand, is once again trying to part with his opulent Los Angeles mansion. Listed for the fifth time in six years, the art-filled estate now carries a price tag of $65 million—$13 million less than its original 2018 listing.
Initially priced at $78 million, the sprawling 26,552-square-foot property first hit the market in October 2018. However, the home was removed a year later, beginning a tumultuous series of relistings and price reductions. Despite its prime location and museum-inspired design, the estate remains unsold.
Nestled on what the listing describes as “the finest street in Holmby Hills,” the property draws its architectural inspiration from Madrid’s Reina Sofia Museum. Completed in 2005 after seven years of construction, the home was meticulously designed to showcase Chow’s extensive art collection, turning the residence into a living gallery.
A Home Like No Other
The mansion boasts nine bedrooms and 14 bathrooms, each meticulously crafted to evoke a unique aesthetic. A grand 30-foot entryway features 400-year-old Moorish columns, while the two-story great room includes a carved fireplace that anchors the space. The chef’s kitchen is outfitted with an oversized center island, which complements the luxurious yet functional design.
Throughout the estate, “museum-quality rooms” showcase historical elements such as 16th- and 17th-century Florentine carved ceilings and ornate light fixtures. One standout feature is the Art Deco library, described in the listing as “the best room in LA.” Meanwhile, the primary suite includes a spa-like bathroom and a freestanding porcelain soaking tub, epitomizing refined luxury.

Amenities Fit for an Entertainer
The 1.1-acre property is a haven for entertainment. A massive swimming pool, a manicured garden, and an outdoor ballroom provide the perfect setting for lavish gatherings. Additional features include a cinema room, a wine room, and a three-story guest cottage, while underground parking ensures ample space for guests.
Chow’s love for art permeates every corner of the estate. The property was designed not just as a home but as a personal museum to house his collection of antiquities and contemporary masterpieces.
The Legacy of Michael Chow
Best known for the Mr. Chow restaurant empire, which began in the 1960s, Michael Chow is also a celebrated painter and avid art collector. His passion for the arts is evident in every detail of the home, from its architectural nuances to its thoughtfully curated interiors.
Despite its grandeur, the mansion has struggled to find a buyer. With its latest price adjustment, Chow hopes this fifth attempt will finally lead to a sale, allowing the next owner to enjoy the splendor and artistry that define this extraordinary Holmby Hills estate.
