The Fairfield Estate is a one-of-a-kind masterpiece on 4.5-acre grounds with more than 12,000 square feet of living area that is sure to captivate you, it has received several upgrades and additions during its history. It was built between 1864 and 1875 by Nathaniel Gillett, a local business investor and gentleman farmer, who hoped to breed horses, grow hops, and raise vineyards there. In 1900, it was purchased by a New York City native who became a prominent Syracuse attorney, Andrew S. White, whose uncle was the first president of Cornell University. The White's maintained a Ritz Carlton residence in Paris and a private residence condo at The Plaza Hotel in New York City. He and his wife, Claire Alcee, a concert singer, filled the house with treasures, art, statues, and hunting trophies. White's library was personally designed by Gustav Stickley and Theodore Roosevelt was a frequent guest in the house and close friends with Andrew White. The estate is located in Manilus, adjacent to Lyndon Golf Course and across the street from Onondaga Country Club. A bed-and-breakfast establishment is to be permitted upon receipt of a use permit granted by the municipality.
