Everyone loves a celebrity home—with breathtaking views, personal embellishments, and of course, the allure of the celebrity lifestyle, they’re a cultural beacon of luxury that few can ignore. Luxury real estate is nearly synonymous with being an A-lister, but the homes of a select few stars stand out far above the rest. One of these gems is the former L.A. penthouse of Friends star Matthew Perry, and it was recently purchased for $21M by fellow home enthusiast and music icon, Rihanna.

As members of the unofficial Hollywood home-buyers clan, each star has their share of opulent homes. Rihanna has owned or rented at least a dozen, including two in Beverly Hills, and Perry has owned lux homes in Pacific Palisades and a 5,500 square-foot Malibu Beach home he sold in 2021 for $13.1M. What’s more, Perry’s sale of the L.A. penthouse to Nick Molnar in 2021 for $23M went down as one of the most expensive condo transactions in the city’s residential sales history.
With the home-buying bar set high by these impressive track records, it’s no surprise the $21M L.A. home manages to surpass your typical notions of a celebrity pad. Rihanna’s new 40th-floor abode—dubbed the “Mansion in the Sky” by Perry—is as vast as it is visually stunning with 9,290 square feet encompassing four bedrooms, eight bathrooms, and panoramic views of the city, ocean, and mountains.

When Perry bought the home in 2017, he brought in architect Scott Joyce and interior designer LM Paganoe to make significant upgrades, resulting in a home of truly epic proportions. If a terrace with views sounds enticing, try four. In the enormous living room, there’s not one, but two fireplaces. And the master suite? It includes multiple living spaces.

Thoughtful leisure spaces can be found throughout the expansive home in places like the game room and home theater, both of which come with sparkling nighttime sites of the city. Dining areas are also optimized for entertainment—the chef’s kitchen has island seating as well as a table for casual dining, and there is a separate dining room clad in glass walls.

Rihanna and Perry’s discerning taste shines through not only in the pad’s adornments but even more so in the celebrity-centric atmosphere of The Century, the 42-story condominium building that houses it. The complex’s celebrity-approved features and paparazzi-proofing have attracted a slew of famous names, with owners such as Candy Spelling, widow of filmmaker Aaron Spelling; Paula Abdul; Elizabeth Berkley; and Denzel Washington. And with four acres of lush private gardens, a 75-foot-long swimming pool, a screening room, yoga and pilates studios, and a wine-storage facility, the property takes luxury living to the next level.
There’s no telling where Rihanna’s journey as a luxury home enthusiast will take her next, but it’s hard to imagine she’ll be letting this diamond in the sky go any time soon.
