Considered the largest lot and interior space in the French City Village section, the 5,716-square-foot home was built in 1925 by George Merrick, developer of Coral Gables. Internationally renowned collector and architect Philip L. Goodwin, who designed New York City’s Museum of Modern Art, designed the home. A registered historic landmark, the home underwent a quality-crafted restoration in 2000.

Featuring four bedrooms, four bathrooms and two half-bathrooms, the home was once owned by Florida Governor LeRoy Collins (in office 1955–1961) and Edward and Marie Swenson (founders of the girls school at Ransom Everglades). The residence has also hosted many political figures over the years, including Florida Governor Lawton Chiles (in office 1991-1998) and President George H. W. Bush. Guests are welcomed into the home via a front door entrance, which is hand-cut and set in 125-year-old reclaimed black and white marble from an Andalusian Monastery in Spain.

The interior of the home is truly unique, boasting original Dade County pine floors throughout the living room and dining room, and solid wood doors throughout the bedrooms and closets. The bedrooms feature 125-year-old reclaimed French limestone floors, and 125-year-old Andalusian marble. Three bedroom suites are located upstairs, each with private access to balcony areas; one guest bedroom is situated downstairs, with a private gated entrance.

The master bedroom boasts a sitting area, ladies’ boudoir dressing area, and the master bathroom is equipped with a separate bathtub, shower, and dual sinks. Other interior features include:
• Elevator
• Bathroom fixtures by Waterworks except for laundry room
• All cabinetry, closets, and built-ins handmade by a 5th Generation Miami millwork company
